Yeah, I love it when the kids’ evolving interests prompt them to use something I’ve had waiting on the shelves — even if it’s taken a year or more. :-)

And, I LOVE it when the kids ask about something & I can say, “Hey, I have a book about that!!”
Though, that did come back to bite me in the butt once — Ethan was watching a show about anteaters and asked me to go get him “the anteater book” and, was totally shocked when I told him I didn’t have a book about anteaters. (we went to the library the next day to get one, though). LOL!!

For me, unschooling certainly does not mean I can’t put stuff out there. Yes, sometimes it’s hard to not attach intention to it or have assumptions that everyone will be interested but you never know if you don’t try. And your post shows perfectly how their ideas often take it in a direction to make it what they need it to be!

Amen. You should order the mineral posters from mii.org, they have a poster of the human body with the minerals we need, ours is on the fridge, because that’s where we are when we eat minerals. Erasing the lines between life and learning doesn’t need to mean erasing everything that might be found in a school.
